  • There Are About 325 Spoken Languages And 700 Dialects In India. Above 60% Of 1200 Million People In India Are Illiterate.
  • According to Religion, Census of India reports 24 million (2.3 percent) Christians in India. India ranked as the #21 country where Christians face the most persecution.
  • International Food Research Institute has released the Global Hunger Index Report 2012. According to the press release India ranks 65 in Global Hunger Index.
  • India has lagged behind in improving its GHI (Global Hunger Index) score despite strong economic growth. In India, 43.5 percent of children under five are underweight, which accounts for almost two-thirds of the country’s alarmingly high GHI score. From 2005-2010, India ranked second to last on child underweight— below Ethiopia, Niger, Nepal, and Bangladesh.
  • 3 million children under the age of five die each year in India, mostly due to malnutrition.

The census defines a slum as “ residential areas where dwellings are unfit for human habitation” because they are dilapidated, cramped, poorly ventilated, unclean, or “ are combination of these factors which are detrimental to the safety and health” and covers all 4041 statutory towns in India.
  • With a population of over 1 billion, India is home to 400 million children, the largest number in any country in the world. One third of the world’s children living in poverty are in India.
  • According to Anthropological Survey of India there are 1652 languages in India
  • There are 222 mega languages, each of which is spoken by at least 10,000 people.
  • Of these 71 languages do not have any Scripture portion.
